More than 50 professors at the University of Texas at Austin signed a letter Sunday voicing their opposition to campus carry, according to the Austin American-Statesman.

Campus carry is set to be implemented on Aug. 1.

The letter said there is “no empirical evidence” linking concealed weapons on campus to student safety.

An excerpt of the letter, from the Austin newspaper:

Shootings give rise to situations marked by panic, confusion, and terror, conditions under which judgment, especially among individuals who are untrained and inexperienced in such situations, is impaired. Because we are personally and professionally committed to promoting the physical and mental well being of children, adolescents, and adults, we strenuously object to this law and to the presence of concealed guns in campus buildings.

An economics professor already said he would not be returning for the fall 2016 because of his concerns about teaching large lecture classes with the possibilities of guns.

Well, if you read this letter, you can see that the signatories are pretty specifically drawing from their expertise and responsibilities as members of the Dept. of Psychology as grounds for their opposition to campus carry.

Trust me, there is much more to come.
