Uber said on Friday that the company had disciplined New York general manager Josh Mohrer after a report that he tracked a journalist’s rides without her permission.
According to Buzzfeed reporter Johana Bhuiyan, Mohrer told her that he had been tracking her ahead of a meeting and had sent her logs of her Uber rides two months beforehand.
Following Bhuiyan’s account, Uber clarified that it did not allow employees to track rides without permission except for “legitimate business purposes.”
And on Friday, Uber said in a statement that the company investigated Mohrer’s actions and a law firm will look at the company’s privacy policy.
“We have concluded our investigation and taken disciplinary actions against NYC General Manager Josh Mohrer. The review by Hogan Lovells that is already underway will evaluate our privacy policies and practices, including employee training and compliance,” the company said in a statement to CNET.
According to Slate, Mohrer is still employed by Uber.

They’ve taken “disciplinary action,” eh? I’m thinking that probably consisted of three minutes of “who’s a naughty boy?”
The beauty of a new more compassionate economy is that it is also more volatile for the upper echelons. Although, I don’t expect it to last.
Yeah, I can’t imagine what kind of “disciplinary action” hurts an executive position who probably has extensive stock holdings…
How lightly can Uber slap Josh Mohrer’s wrist? A philosophical question for the ages
At least they are taking the appropriate remediatory actions.
