Trump Spox Defends Using ‘Gestapo Tactics’ To Describe Cruz’s Campaign

Katrina Pierson, a spokeswoman for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, on Monday defended using the term “gestapo tactics” to describe the way the Trump campaign claims Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) has been scaring delegates into voting for him.

The term was first used by Trump’s top aide, Paul Manafort, on “Meet the Press.”

“Well, he’s threatening, you go to these county conventions, and you see the tactics, Gestapo tactics, the scorched-earth tactics,” Manafort said Sunday, claiming Cruz was threatening delegates for votes.

Pierson defended the term on CNN and said that Republican presidential candidate Ohio Gov. John Kasich had also criticized Cruz’s tactics.

“It is a word to define exactly the type of malice that is involved with going after some of these delegates in a very hostile and intimidating way,” Pierson said.

CNN host Wolf Blitzer asked Pierson if the characterization was inappropriate.

“Well, again, you’re talking about a campaign that doesn’t care much for political correctness,” she replied.

Blitzer said that it gave the Gestapo too much credit by using the term and again asked her if she wanted to take it back.

“Where was all this concern when Mr. Trump was being called Hitler? So, no,” Pierson said. “I think this is just another situation where it is a word to determine just how hostile this has gone on in these states for these delegates. I think it was a word that lets everyone knowing exactly what he was talking about.”

Almost as Gestapo as inciting attendees to physically assault protestors.

    But not quite.

  5. “Lookee, the Gestapo get a bad rap,” Ms. Pierson said. “These were strong men with large biceps and big crotches. I mean, like, what’s everyone’s beef with the Nazis anyway?”
