President Donald Trump announced Thursday that he would issue a new executive order to supplement his current immigration executive order, which has been suspended in an ongoing legal battle.

Trump’s original order temporarily suspended the United States’ refugee program and also temporarily halted travel and immigration to the United States from seven Muslim-majority countries, including indefinitely from Syria. A suspension of the implementation of the order was upheld recently by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

“We’re issuing a new executive action next week that will comprehensively protect our country,” Trump said, before referring to the old order: “So we’ll be going along the one path and hopefully winning that. At the same time, we will be issuing a new and very comprehensive order to protect our people.”

“And that will be done sometime next week, toward the beginning or middle at the latest part,” he said, referring to the new order.
