Town Hall Attendees Tell Cotton: This Is A Grassroots Effort

Two attendees at a town hall meeting for Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) said the day after that the large crowd in attendance Wednesday night was the result of a grassroots effort, and that Cotton seemed unprepared for the depth of anger at the Trump administration and Senate Republicans.

“I didn’t think he was properly prepared and did not know what to expect from this event. We did the Pledge of Allegiance at the beginning, and when we got to the ‘indivisible with liberty and justice for all,’ it erupted from there and set the tone for the whole evening,” town hall attendee Mary Storey told MSNBC’s Hallie Jackson Thursday morning.

Jackson had asked her about a charge from former Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC), who said that protestors were being “bused in” from out of state.

Storey acknowledged that she received emails from “Ozark Indivisible,” a local affiliate of the Indivisible Guide, a make-shift handbook written by former congressional staffers on effective ways to lobby the government.

“And when the President tweeted day before yesterday that it was sad that all of these liberal activists were turning out and disrupting the town hall meetings, I said, ‘Okay, I’m there. I’m going to be at that meeting.’ So, no, as far as I could see, it was a grassroots effort,” Storey said.

Julia Sampson, who asked Cotton to force Trump’s hand on releasing his tax returns, said she was surprised at the passion of friends and neighbors she saw in attendance.

“I saw dozens and dozens of people that I knew there and I was surprised about how fervent they were about their desires and about their issues,” Sampson said. “I had been to the Steve Womack meeting, who is our congressional representative, two days before, and there was quite a bit of fervor there, too. So it seems to be building and it seems to be that it will be sustained long term.”

“But I’m just enthused by the amount of participation. And it’s not just showing up at town hall meetings,” she added later. “There’s a lot of letter writing and postcard writing going on as well, and phone calls. It seems like Sen. Cotton’s phone is not working properly much of the time. But we’ll continue to call and write letters nonetheless.”

  1. Looks like the Soros script is getting a lot more sophisticated. And the pay must be great - these people really put a lot of effort into faking conviction. Real professionals!

  2. I sooo remember the TV talking heads questioning the TeaTurds about being “bused in” right?

    Hmmm. How could that be?

  4. Those GOP elected officials better figure it out real quick, the packs of fed up and motivated citizens have your scent trail and their not going to let up until you’re treed.
