Stephen Colbert continued to gloat over the Republican midterm victory on Thursday as he looked forward to Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK), a climate change denier, possibly leading the Senate Environmental Committee.

“Finally the Environmental Committee can focus on the important issues, like, who’s stealing all our polar bears?” the host of “The Colbert Report” said.

He recommended Inhofe’s book, “The Greatest Hoax: How the Global Warming Conspiracy Threatens Your Future.”

“It’s like ‘Harry Potter’ for people who thought ‘Harry Potter’ had too much science in it!” he said with a smile.

Colbert then reviewed all of Inhofe’s fellow GOPers who spout the same “I am not a scientist” line on climate change: Sen. Mitch McConell (R-KY), House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH), Florida Gov. Rick Scott and former presidential nominee Mitt Romney.

“Yes, everyone who denies man-made climate change has the same stirring message: We don’t know what the fuck we’re talking about!” he said.

“Remember kids, if you get un-hooked on science early, maybe someday you could completely lack any understanding of science and then grow up to be the chairman of the Senate Environmental Committee!” he added.

  1. I’m not a scientist either, but this guy keeps me sane. Used to be Maher, now it’s Colbert. For a few more months. Then he turns into Johnny Carson.

  2. I predict we’re going to see some epic takedowns from Colbert as the show winds down. That’s not a hard thing to predict, based on all the epic takedowns we’ve already seen, of course, but anyway that’s what I think.

  3. I’m really looking forward to see how Colbert runs Late Night. If he’s going to “turn into Johnny Carson”, that will be fine with me. I remember when Johnny actually had people come on the Tonight Show to discuss actual issues.

i think i’d dispute the ‘shamed’ part of the piece. inhofe has no sense of shame.

  5. James Inhofe as Chairman of E&PW is possibly the worst part of Republicans taking the majority.
