Senate Rejects House Proposal To Go To Conference

Mere hours after the federal government shut down for the first time since 1996, the Senate on Tuesday rejected a proposal by House Republicans to go to conference to negotiate a stopgap spending measure.

The Senate rejected the proposal by a 54-46 margin.
