Republican Senate hopeful Steve Lonegan will be getting an assist this Saturday from former GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin.
Lonegan, who is an underdog to Newark, N.J. Mayor Cory Booker (D) in the New Jersey special Senate election, announced Wednesday that the former Alaska governor will be joining at a rally in New Egypt, N.J, billing it as “the largest grass-roots campaign event” in the state’s history.
The Republican also jabbed Vice President Joe Biden, who nixed a scheduled campaign appearance with Booker due to the government shutdown.
“While Joe Biden uses the excuse of a government shutdown to avoid an embarrassing reception campaigning for Cory Booker, I am proud to have the opportunity to stand next to a great conservative leader who should have been the Vice President as we go into the final hundred hours til victory on Wednesday, October. 16th,” Lonegan said in a statement.
Although polls have tightened in recent weeks, Booker remains the favorite in the special election. The PollTracker Average currently shows the mayor with about a 12-point edge over Lonegan.
