President Obama called Donald Trump early Wednesday morning to congratulate him on winning the presidency, according to a statement from the White House.

Obama also called Clinton and “expressed admiration for the strong campaign she waged throughout the country,” according to the White House statement.

The President will make a statement on the outcome of the presidential election later on Wednesday, and he has invited Trump to the White House to meet on Thursday, according to the White House.

“Ensuring a smooth transition of power is one of the top priorities the President identified at the beginning of the year and a meeting with the President-elect is the next step,” the statement from the White House reads.
