The hosts of Fox News’ “Fox and Friends” brought Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) onto the show Friday morning to explain why he said the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was leading the “Democrats’ war on women nurses.”
But what host Brian Kilmeade found intolerable was Gohmert’s jokes at his colleague Geraldo Rivera’s expense.
Speaking Thursday on Glenn Beck’s radio show, Gohmert ripped into CDC Director Thomas Frieden for saying that the two nurses who contracted Ebola while caring for a patient in a Dallas hospital had violated protocol.
“I don’t want Frieden to resign,” Gohmert clarified Friday. “I agree with, Geraldo was talking about that. I have to bow to him in certain areas where he has more expertise, like selfie nudies, he’s got more expertise there. But with regard to the CDC, Frieden ought to stay on.”
Rivera had appeared on the show before Gohmert and said he believed Frieden should stay put at the agency.
“Congressman, I get it. But real quick, don’t take shots at Geraldo,” Kilmeade said as he interrupted Gohmert. “He’s a great friend of ours, he has great experience.”
“Oh, I didn’t mean to, no, I really mean he’s got a lot more expertise in that area,” Gohmert said.
“Well don’t,” Kilmeade said. “Just don’t. Let’s just stick to the topic.”
Geraldo, who’s known to post shirtless photos to his Twitter account, had this to say in response before he said Gohmert apologized to him:
Rep Louis Gohmert is exactly what’s wrong with Congress. He’s a whiny, name-calling ideologue with no original ideas& he’s scrawny & envious

Rep. Louis Gohmert reached out to me saying it was all in fun. I accept his apology and apologize to him for my (over) aggressive response.
