Jon Stewart made a triumphant return to late night Thursday to eviscerate the newly-christened GOP nominee and his Fox News hype man, Sean Hannity.
Stewart took Stephen Colbert’s seat on “The Late Show” to repeatedly slam “angry groundhog” Donald Trump, who he said embodies the same values that “Lumpy” Hannity has spent years decrying from President Obama.
“You just want that person to give you your country back. Because you feel that you’re this country’s rightful owners,” Stewart said. “There’s only one problem with that. This country isn’t yours. You don’t own it. It never was.”
He continued for a big finish: “There is no real America. You don’t own it. You don’t own patriotism. You don’t own Christianity. You sure as hell don’t own respect for the bravery and sacrifice of military, police, and firefighters. Trust me, I saw a lot of people on the convention floor in Cleveland with their blue lives matter rhetoric who either remained silent or actively fought against the 9/11 first responders bill reauthorization. I see you and your bullshit.”

It’s funny, I haven’t missed Stewart the way you might miss your dog if it retired and stopped being your dog or something, mostly because I felt he deserved his freedom after all those years, but Jesus, it came rushing back how funny he is and how sanity-preserving his sense of right and wrong were. I hope he at least keeps popping up like this over the next few months
