After presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), for whatever reason, cut a video with BuzzFeed doing impressions of Simpsons characters, Jon Stewart on Thursday called it “the weirdest fucking thing I’ve ever seen.”

“I have to give Ted Cruz credit — usually you have to wait until you’re actually President to do that much damage to something America holds so dear,” Stewart said.

He asked how the clip could be playing out in the Simpsons’ hometown of Springfield, and cut to Homer Simpson placing his head inside a noose.

On Tuesday, BuzzFeed editor-in-chief Ben Smith explained to TPM the background of the siite’s collaboration with the presidential contender, saying that Ted Cruz knows how to “go viral.”

By Thursday the Cruz post had around 400,000 views via Facebook.

  1. I have to wonder if the apparent resurgence of Ebola in Liberia and Ted Cruz “going viral” are related.

  2. If Cruz truly thinks those are good impressions, it would be the clearest evidence yet that he’s literally delusional.

  3. Cruz got half of it right…he is certainly a cartoon character.

  4. I’m the only one who thought it was funny, then?

  5. Me too-- (caveat - Jon yes … Ted not so much)
