“The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart on Monday night lambasted the state of Indiana over its controversial religious freedom law that may have allowed businesses to discriminate against gays and lesbians.

Stewart mocked Indiana Gov. Mike Pence (R) for defending the law by claiming that “Hoosiers don’t believe in discrimination.”

“First of all, can we stop talking about the people of Indiana like they’re a lost tribe from Nostalgistan?” Stewart asked. “Let’s face it — people from Indiana are no nicer or shitier than people anywhere else.”

Stewart then called attention to those who defended Indiana’s law by arguing that people should not be forced to serve gay people, just as they should not be forced to serve Nazis or members of the Ku Klux Klan.

“It’s been awhile since I’ve taken the SATs, but I believe the formulation as you defend yourselves is this: [a lesbian] couple is to Christian business as [KKK members] are to everyone else,” he said. “Is that what you’re saying? ‘I’m not discriminating, I have nothing against gay people — I’m just saying, for some Christians, catering an elderly lesbian wedding is like making a Jew slow-dance with Hitler.'”

“Do you see how fucked up that is?” Stewart asked. “The lesson here is clear. If you’re in Indiana, and you get fired for being gay, make those motherfuckers cater your wedding.”
