Jon Stewart pities Rick Santorum. It seems the 2012 GOP presidential candidate best-known for his rigid opposition to gay rights can’t even opine on Obamacare without conjuring up thoughts of a crude term that bears his name.
During a recent appearance on CNN, Santorum said that while HealthCare.gov’s “front-end” problems might be resolved, the “information coming out the back-end to the insurance companies is still garbage.”
Had it been uttered by anyone else, the phrase likely would have been soon forgotten. But hearing Santorum say it, Stewart couldn’t help but think of gay rights activist and columnist Dan Savage’s own definition for the Republican’s last name.
“I’m actually starting to feel bad for Rick Santorum,” Stewart said on Monday’s episode of “The Daily Show.” “Because my guess is that you folks, like myself, the first thing you thought of as you watched that was, ‘Hey, it sounds like you’re describing the frothy rectal juice for which you are the name.”
To protest remarks Santorum made about homosexuality, Savage urged readers in 2003 to coin a definition for the former senator’s last name. Thanks in large part to the Internet, the alternative definition has followed Santorum ever since.
