John Oliver toasted the nearly round-the-clock fundraising requirements for congressional lawmakers on Sunday night’s episode of “Last Week Tonight” with Long Island chardonnay.
Watch Oliver split a bag of Long Island chardonnay with Rep. Steve Israel (D-NY) and talk about the “engine room of congressional fundraising,” via HBO:
Steve Israel, really taking it on the chin.
Think of it as a subsidy for newspapers and TV stations.
And welcome to another reason I could never run for office…and really, if they hate this so much, they should change it. Of course, that might upset the people lining their pockets…
That real was depressing. If our Congresspersons won’t do campaign finance reform just to get out of 4 hours a day of begging like this, what other argument could possibly convince them?
There has got to be a solution to this problem somewhere in game theory, but I don’t know it well enough to propose something. Anyone reading this know of a good resource on this that has already been done in PolSci?
I’ve had some great Long Island wines, also shitty ones, but there are some good ones out there for sure.
While a wine bag doesn’t compare to a wine bottle and cork aesthetically it sure is convenient in a backpack.
