Republican presidential candidate and Ohio Gov. John Kasich said Sunday that he would not drop out of the 2016 GOP race because he thought he was making “really good progress” in early voting states New Hampshire and Iowa.

CBS “Face the Nation” host John Dickerson asked Kasich for his thoughts on GOP hopefuls who have since dropped out. Former Texas Gov. Rick Perry left the race Sept. 11 and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker quit Sept. 21.

“‘Well, there’s three things you need to be —be President, in my opinion,’ said by a smart Democrat. One, you’ve got to have issues. Two, you have to have vision. And, three, you kind of have to be likable,” Kasich said. “You got to have at least two of those three.”

Kasich has typically fallen in the middle in terms of support in recent polls.

“But what I have found, as you know, I’m now — my campaign has gone on for slightly more than just two months, John, and you know I’m in the top tier in New Hampshire, I’m beginning to rise in Iowa,” Kasich continued. “So if it — if what I’m saying is not true, then I should be — I should be getting out of the race, which I am not because I think we’re making really good progress and connecting.”
