MSNBC host Joe Scarborough went on a tear during Thursday’s “Morning Joe,” saying that security at the U.S. Capitol should’ve shot down the 61-year-old man who flew his helicopter onto the Capitol lawn.

“Is it just me?” Scarborough said. “Shoot ’em. Just shoot ’em.”

“If you’re in charge of security for the Capitol, do you let him fly around or do you shoot him down?” Scarborough continued. “Shoot him down. Magical pony flying through the sky? Shoot it down.”

Scarborough then prodded everyone else on the show until co-host Mika Brzezinski conceded that if she were in charge of Capitol security, she’d issue “a warning and another warning and then you’re down. And then you’re down.”

On Wednesday, mailman Doug Hughes of Ruskin, Florida, flew his gyrocopter onto the lawn of the U.S. Capitol building in an attempt to hand-deliver letters asking members of Congress to act on campaign finance reform.

  1. Just wondering, but if a foreign dignitary were present when this nutjob landed on the WH lawn, would the Secret Service be more likely to open fire?

  2. Quick, somebody tape joe’s mouth shut and put him in a remote controlled gyrocopter. Guess where I would fly him too just to test the security 1 more time.

  3. Funny how Republican’s solution to so much begins with the phrase, “Just shoot 'em.”

  4. Intentionally off point, as usual. To “shoot” one would have to aim and to aim one would have to see, something no costly agency seemingly did.
Morning media wants a single head when, in fact, hundreds should feel the axeman’s kiss for this Holy of Holies penetration by a grandpa on a flying bicycle.

  5. This guy was not a “nutjob,” he was trying to make a valid point about campaign finance reform and figured this was a good way to make it. He intended no harm and even widely publicized the fact that he was going to do it. He also sent emails to DC authorities about his plans.
