Jeffrey Lord: Ditch ‘Ryan Plan’ And Let Obamacare ‘Crash’

Jeffrey Lord, the CNN political commentator and in-house Trump surrogate, said Wednesday that Republicans should abandon the American Health Care Act and let Obamacare “crash.”

Lord’s comments came after Ana Navarro, another CNN commentator, said that her own congresswoman, Rep. Ileana Ros-lehtinen (R-FL), had announced Tuesday that she would vote against the Republican plan to replace Obamacare.

“Listening to Ana here, I’m beginning to think that that might be the thing to do,” Lord said, asked if President Trump should “wash his hands of this, let the Ryan plan, as he calls it, fail.”

“I mean, Obamacare is failing. It is in fact imploding. Insurance companies are backing out. I’m beginning to think, with all of these problems here with the Ryan plan, et cetera, the best thing is to just step back and let it crash,” Lord continued. “And then when it crashes, there will be incentive to do something else, a free market replacement for it. But if we’re going to have this kind of problem here, then step back and let Obamacare follow its course. And that’s not good for people, but if that’s what they want, there they go.”

Lord doesn’t have any official position in the White House, but for months represented the Trump campaign’s perspective on television.

The Republican health care plan has encountered an increasingly bumpy road since its introduction, especially after the Congressional Budget Office estimated Monday that 24 million people would lose health insurance cover by 2026 if it were passed into law, relative to Obamacare.

  1. Why does CNN feel the need to hire an in-house Trump surrogate? This asshole is the most annoying person on the teevee machine.

  2. Sorry, guys. No one is going to blame Obama or the ACA when healthcare implodes due to NO ACTION on the part of the ruling party. They will then be blamed for not fixing the ACA since they couldn’t come up with anything else. Idiots. Trump is too fucking lazy to do any actual work. He’d be a hero if he came up with a single payer plan, damn the GOP.

  3. And now we have the latest GOP talking point; we don’t have to kill “Obamacare,” it will collapse on its own. As the headline on another post here tells us:

Yup, 12 million new sign-ups. “It’s crashing, it’s crashing, oh, the humanity!” Lord is a prime useful idiot for the Trump criminal conspiracy and the amoral GOP. YA reason I never watch CNN, they are desperately trying to be FOX News Lite.

  4. Yep…this is as ‘smart’ as shutting down the government. Something else you supported Jeff? You really are a twit…

  5. To the extent that Obamacare is “failing” is wholly dependent on Republican’t stonewalling and outright sabotage, whether it’s Little Marco’s poison pill amendment to wipe out Risk Corridor payments to insurance companies, GOP governors abdicating state responsibility to set up exchanges or expand Medicaid, or the Supreme Court legislating from the bench to make resisting said expansions a penalty-free option. So yes, Obamacare is failing in Red States, as is to be expected. Hopefully that will convince the people affected the most by the failure in those states to either stop voting for GOPosaurs or to start voting in the first place. Meanwhile, the people in the states that did the right thing by their constituents can continue reaping the benefits.
