Rep. Dennis Ross (R-FL) on Monday said that the Congressional Black Caucus should attend Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech to Congress because they have a “common bond” of “oppression” with the Jewish community.

Newsmax TV host Steve Malzberg asked Ross for his thoughts on the decision by members of the Congressional Black Caucus to boycott Netanyahu’s Tuesday speech.

“When you look at the oppression, when you look at the culture of enduring faith that the Jewish people have had since the beginning of time and you look at the oppression that the blacks have suffered not only here in this country but elsewhere around the world, there’s a common bond there,” Ross responded, according to video published by Buzzfeed News. “They should be there at the ready to support Prime Minister Netanyahu.”

Malzberg then asked what “message” it sends for black members of Congress to skip the speech.

“It sends a poor message from a very good delegation of Americans that I’m embarrassed about and I would rather have them there to join me solidifying our position on behalf of American-Israeli relations,” Ross said.

    What the fuck???
    REALLY?
Black people should be “at the ready” to support Netanyahu…no matter what. Wow.

This guy should be embarrassed at the way this invite was extended.
He should be embarrassed at how this event came political.
He should be embarrassed that the WH was not even notified beforehand.
He should be embarrassed at how Netanyahu is using U.S. Congress to win an upcoming election.

But no, he’s embarrassed Black people aren’t kissing Netanyahu’s feet, because of oppression.

    Unbelievable.

  3. Why should “they” be at the ready to support a Prime Minister of a foreign county?

God help your precious hurt fee fees that the CBC said “No thanks, wingers”, you clueless backbencher.

The liberation narrative of the Israelites in the Old Testament is a prominent metaphor used in black christian theology. But, Bibi isn’t here to break bread and build bridges, theological or otherwise (see:Israeli President Rivil). He is here, with the aid of the republicans, to leverage white backlash against the first black president to elevate himself and his election prospects.

  5. they have a “common bond” of “oppression” with the Jewish community.

Well, now that a smarter (white) guy took the time to explain it, they’ll all be there sharpish.
