Google is partnering with crowdsourcing charity organization DonorsChoose.org to offer U.S. public schools a discount on its Samsung Series 5 Chromebook laptop, down from $399 to $99, the search giant announced on Monday. Interested public school teachers can request up to 30 discounted Chromebooks on DonorsChoose.org, which will then list the requests and solicit donations from Web users. But the Chromebooks won’t be sent unless enough donors pitch-in to match the cost.
Google noted that it has previously partnered with U.S. public schools to offer students Chromebooks in smaller, more targeted settings, such as the 3,500 Chromebooks given to students in a Chicago-area school district in April.
