Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said Sunday that he believed in polls and, if his numbers dropped, would leave the GOP race and go back to his business.
Trump said on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that he wasn’t a masochist.
“Number one — I’m not a masochist,” he said. “And if I was dropping in the polls where I thought I wasn’t gonna win, why would I continue?”
“I’m doing great in the polls,” Trump continued. “If I were doing poorly, if I saw myself going down, if you would stop calling me because you no longer had any interest in Trump because he was doing so poorly,” he said, talking to NBC host Chuck Todd. “I’d go back to my business. I have no problem with that.”
Watch Trump’s comments:
And there’s his out. Everyone drops in the polls. Polls go up and down depending on temperament, timing and how the questions are asked. Note, the GOP polls will probably rely on the latter method to try to lose Trump.
Of course he will drop out if he falls in the polls, this a literal egomaniac we are talking about here. I will admit I am surprised he said so out loud.
He could run as third party. Ha ha ha ha. That would still be his “business.”
He started out high in the polls (always a shaky measurement of success), but that only says he’s got nowhere to go put down. There are days though I get the sense he’s doing all of this to ensure Jeb!'s failure and won’t leave until then.
Not a surprise. It’s all about his yoooooge popularity. Policies? He’s got yoooooge policies, just don’t ask about them. He has no intention of winning this thing. It’s just a long (unfunny) stand-up comedy set for him. Have we ever seen anything like this before?
