Donald Trump on Tuesday night lamented that Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC), the chair of the House Select Committee on Benghazi, has turned his attention away from Hillary Clinton amidst admissions from Republicans that the investigation was launched in order to attack Clinton politically.

During an interview on Fox News, host Sean Hannity asked Trump how he felt about the upcoming Benghazi hearing with Clinton.

“I was really looking forward to the hearings, but then you had a congressman, Republican go against Trey Gowdy and all of the people, as you know. And then you had a whistleblower come out. So that hurt. That was not exactly positive,” Trump said in response, referring to the Republicans who said that the committee had political goals.

Trump then suggested that these admissions prompted Gowdy to give up on his focus on Clinton.

“He seemed to be doing a big pivot away from Hillary Clinton,” the real estate mogul said. “And I was trying to figure out what that was all about. So you may not be as happy as you think with these hearings.”
