Larry Wilmore used Bill Cosby’s signature dessert — the pudding pop — on Monday night’s “The Nightly Show” to debunk the comedian’s ardent stance that he did not rape and assault almost four dozen women over the span of 40 years.
Wilmore noted that Cosby’s fictional wife on “The Cosby Show” was a lawyer, a profession the comedian has been relying on heavily of late.
“Let’s take a look at what not-Claire Huxtable is putting out there as a defense strategy,” Wilmore said.
The team’s approach is three-pronged — but, flawed, Wilmore said.
“First, they hope to cast Mr. Cosby’s use of drugs during sex as a widely accepted practice four decades ago,” Wilmore said. “The problem is non-consensual sex has never been a widely-accepted practice. This never caught on.”
Further, Cosby’s legal team said the comedian’s testimony does not change his consistent denial of wrongdoing, and it was a mistake for the court documents to be released.
“Because if there’s anything innocent people hate, it’s the truth getting out,” Wilmore said.
