Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper (D) was leading Republican challenger Bob Beauprez by a razor-thin margin early Wednesday morning, but the race was too close to call.

Hickenlooper was up 48 percent to Beauprez’s 47.3 percent with 92 percent of the vote counted, according to the Denver Post. The Associated Press has not called the race.

Secretary of State Scott Gessler told the Denver Post there was a strong chance the governor’s race could go to a recount, however.

A recount is automatically triggered if the two candidates are separated by 0.5 percent of the vote or less.
