Real estate mogul Donald Trump may think he’s worth “TEN BILLION DOLLARS,” but Bloomberg disagrees.

The Bloomberg Billionaires Index estimated Tuesday that the Republican presidential candidate is worth closer to $2.9 billion after crunching the numbers from the 92-page financial disclosure forms Trump filed with the Federal Election Commission.

The Bloomberg index notably did not take into account the value of Trump’s brand “beyond accounting for cash held in accounts for his licensing deals and business partnerships.” Trump’s large estimations of his own personal net worth put a premium on that brand.

As Timothy L. O’Brien, author of the 2005 book “TrumpNation,” wrote recently at Bloomberg View, the real estate mogul admits that the figures he throws out for his net worth go “up and down with markets and with attitudes and with feelings, even my own feelings.”

  1. I had a good night’s sleep and feel pretty good this morning, so I guess I am worth $10-12 million today.

  2. Hell, i don’t know about you, but I am still breathing this morning and that’s worth at least $100m, minimum! Waking up is YUUUUGGGGGE!11!!

  3. And here I thought he was worth two nickles and a suspicious quarter.

  4. Is he saying his ‘goodwill’ = $7B? Ha!

    From Wikipedia:

However, according to International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), goodwill is never amortized. Instead, management is responsible for valuing goodwill every year and to determine if an impairment is required. If the fair market value goes below historical cost (what goodwill was purchased for), an impairment must be recorded to bring it down to its fair market value. However, an increase in the fair market value would not be accounted for in the financial statements.

    Waiting for that writedown…

  5. He’s never going to be poor but I think we’re seeing the beginning of the end for Trump as a super rich brand. He’s shot his overseas brand in the foot, and his domestic brand has shifted from “loudmouth celeb” to “politician”. He’ll live on Fox News at this point.
