An HBO documentary about former President Bill Clinton has reportedly stalled after award-winning director Martin Scorsese refused to give Clinton more control over the project.

The New York Times reported Thursday that Clinton asked to have approval over questions that would be asked in the film as well as final cut privileges, citing anonymous people briefed on the project.

Clinton spokesman Matt McKenna told the Times that it was “inaccurate” to say that project had been hamstrung by disagreements over its control and was now indefinitely shelved.

An HBO spokesperson told the newspaper that the documentary “was not happening soon but that doesn’t mean it’s not going to happen.”

Scorsese first announced the project in 2012. It’s now partly finished as parts of the documentary, including one of Clinton’s philanthropic visits to Africa, were shot over the last two years, according to the Times.

Both CNN and NBC scrapped planned film projects on former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, shortly after the Republican National Committee threatened to pull presidential primary debates from the networks.
