Kentucky Republican Matt Bevin released a new radio ad Thursday hitting Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) for his involvement in ending the government shutdown.

The ad features clips of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY), the third-ranking Democrat in the Senate, praising McConnell for cementing a deal to end the government shutdown earlier this month.

Bevin and the Senate Conservatives Fund have repeatedly hammered McConnell for his involvement in ending the shutdown saying that doing so essentially shows that McConnell supports funding Obamacare.

“Liberals all agree, Mitch McConnell was crucial in the effort to fund Obamacare,” the voiceover in the new Bevin ad said.

The ad is actually somewhat similar to one put out by the super PAC associated with the Senate Conservatives Fund, that has also backed Bevin. That ad too criticizes McConnell for helping to end the shutdown without defunding Obamacare.

The Bevin ad will air in the Louisville, Lexington and Bowling Green markets according to Bevin’s campaign.

A spokeswoman for McConnell’s campaign called the ad absurd.

“It’s honestly sad that Matt Bevin’s candidacy has been reduced to absurdities like this,” McConnell campaign spokeswoman Allison Moore said in a statement to TPM. “I suppose if you could face criminal charges, it was revealed that you didn’t attend the school you claimed to graduate, and all you have to hang your hat on is an endorsement from a fundraising organization dedicated to destroying the Republican Party then you have nowhere else to turn.”
