Police: Suspect Shot Dead, Hostages Safe After Standoff In Texas Walmart

Local police confirmed a suspect who took at least one person hostage inside an Amarillo, Texas Walmart on Tuesday was shot dead by SWAT officers.

The hostages inside the store are safe, police said. Officers first responded to reports of an active shooter shortly after noon local time on Tuesday.

No other injuries were reported, and the suspect’s name has not been released.

In an update posted online at 12:18 p.m. local time, police said, “we have not confirmed ANY gunshot victims and this appears to be a workplace violence type event.”

The Randall County Sheriff’s Office confirmed on Facebook the suspect has taken “at least one” hostage.

Officials were advising civilians to avoid the area. Police had earlier reported officers were responding to reports of an active shooter.
