Not only does Alan Simpson know how to “Fix the Debt,” the 82-year-old former senator can tell you the difference between “naked” and “nekkid.”

And so he did, after he asked a Des Moines Register reporter on Monday for a moment to deal with the fact that he was “stark nekkid” during a phone interview.

“Do you know the difference between naked and nekkid?” he asked after he picked up the phone. “If you’re naked, you don’t have any clothes on, but if you’re nekkid you don’t have any clothes on but you’re up to something.”

While neither he nor the paper identified what he was “up to,” this isn’t the first time the Wyoming pol taught young people a thing or two.

The former co-chair of President Obama’s debt commission danced “Gangnam Style” last year to highlight his new campaign, Fix the Debt.

Update: The “nekkid” quote appears to come from the late Southern humorist Lewis Grizzard.
