The man suspected of planting explosive devices in New York and New Jersey over the weekend was charged Monday for engaging in gunfire with police as they attempted to arrest him.

The Union County, New Jersey prosecutor charged Ahmad Khan Rahami with five counts of attempted murder of a law enforcement officer, as well as second-degree counts of unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, NBC News reported. Charges for his alleged involvement in the bombings have not yet been announced.

Rahami’s bail was set at $5.2 million by a state judge, according to NBC.

The New Jersey man was apprehended by officers outside a bar in the town of Linden on Monday morning, hours after the FBI circulated a wanted poster featuring his photograph. Rahami managed to shoot one police officer in the hand and another in the chest before he was shot in the leg and taken into custody.

The officers’ injuries did not appear life-threatening, NBC reported.

Rahami is still undergoing treatment at Newark’s University Hospital. A source briefed on the case told ABC News that he is not cooperating with investigators and has thus far declined even to give his name.

Both New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio have called the planting of explosives in lower Manhattan and the New Jersey towns of Elizabeth and Seaside Park acts of terrorism. No motive for the attacks has yet been determined.
