Democrats may resign from House Select Committee on Benghazi after Hillary Clinton testifies Thursday at a high-profile public hearing, according to a top Democrat on the panel.

“That, I think, is going to be a matter of our discussion after the hearing this week: How much longer does it make sense for us to continue to participate?” Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) told Reuters in an interview published Tuesday.

Schiff said Democrats’ presence would ensure that the panel’s Republican members give Clinton a fair hearing, but added that it was a double-edged sword.

“At the same time, you know, we lend legitimacy, by being there, to a committee that really has none,” he told Reuters.

Last month, Schiff called for the Benghazi committee to be disbanded in a New York Times op-ed that argued the panel had become “little more than a partisan tool to influence the presidential race.” Since he wrote that op-ed, two Republican congressman and a former GOP staffer for the committee have suggested that the panel targeted Clinton. Those comments gave the committees’ Democrats plenty of ammunition to go after Chairman Trey Gowdy (R-SC) and cast doubt on the panel’s credibility ahead of its high-stakes grilling of the Democratic presidential frontrunner.

Chairman Pitino’s er Gowdy’s credibility is at stake…

  2. Hold on Mr. Schiff: I hardily disagree with your complain that the committee has become “little more than a partisan tool to influence the presidential race.” That’s just not true. It is only a partisan tool to influence the presidential race.

Tough call. Do you abandon the committee and risk more propaganda in the future as Gowdy and his band of idiots release partial testimony, redacted emails, and other grossly dishonest “evidence” in order to slime Clinton? Or, do you stick around and continue giving this committee even a shred of credibility? I don’t trust the American people to be interested enough or smart enough to understand that the Democrats are walking away because it’s a farce. I fully expect the American people to think “theys just runnin’ away”, although some will get it. Tough call.

Hey, hey, hey…:::shakes fist::: Wait, just one damn minute! In a town that serves liquor until 4 am, where bourbon is literally on tap in some places and basketball players are gods, I remain unconvinced that anyone paid for sex. Strippers, yes. I believe that. But sex? No.

They shouldn’t quit until the final report is written so that they can make sure it is purged of bullshit. Or that there is no report issued at all and they just cross-reference the earlier report since no new actual facts have been “discovered.”

  5. I don’t see how a childish stunt is going to fix a childish stunt. They should ride it to the end and it wouldn’t hurt if that got a bit more assertive. The GOP has a majority but that doesn’t come with duct tape and gags. The Democrats can object and use their time to allow witlessness’s to testify sans Gowdy’s courtroom leadings and theatrics. Quit is quit and it’s not a word the Democrats need be associated with. The press will murder them if they do it. They never should have mentioned it.
