This Could Get Weird

It’s still early and it’s still close. But as of this moment, 42% of the precincts are reporting and Thad Cochran is holding a consistent mid-single digit lead over Tea Party Republican McDaniel. If that holds – a big if – it’s going to be like putting the nitro and the dynamite and the plastique of GOP crazy in one can and tossing it into the oven for the evening.

Remember, the McDaniel camp and the Tea Party have spent the last week claiming that African-American Democrats were going to essentially steal the race for Cochran or that Cochran was going to steal the race with African-American votes. Mix that in with the prospective vote fraud. I’d expect a three alarm Birth of a Nation style freakout.

On the other hand, now we’re at 46% and the margin has narrowed and some key counties have come in for McDaniel.
