As you’ve no doubt seen, a stretch of the Northeast, from New York to Boston, is bundling down for a mammoth blizzard that may be anywhere from a historic storm to just a big storm. Our New York City staff is going to be working remotely tomorrow; our headquarters will be closed. But personally the major crisis was that I had let this epic storm coincide with our getting perilously low on my supply of Grady’s Cold Brew Ice Coffee. And in case you think I’m kidding, I’m not.

As many of you know, coffee, perhaps not surprisingly, has always been at the heart of the TPM ecosystem. From the then-blog’s early days at a Starbucks in Washington, DC till today. But of late, I’ve gravitated to one coffee, Grady’s Cold Brew. I no longer drink anything else.

I first tried another cold brewed ice coffee and liked it. But then I discovered Grady’s which was in a different class entirely.

The label identifies it as “coffee concentrate”. I don’t know if this is a jest or whether you’re actually supposed to use it as a concentrate. My wife and I dispense with the ‘concentrate’ nonsense and just drink it straight. The idea with cold-brewed coffee, other than the taste being better, is that it’s less acidic. And now I find when I drink regular brewed ice coffee, well … I just can’t.

In any case, back to our crisis. Realizing that we’d probably run out of Grady’s today meant – with the blizzard coming – we’d likely be Gradys-less until at least Wednesday, which was upsetting. You can buy it in stores. But we order it for delivery because I can never find it in really adequate quantities. So I took to Twitter to see whether there was any way the Grady’s piece could fill our order today.

They responded!

After first asking whether I was really really out and seeing if I could hold out till Wednesday I assured the disembodied voice of Grady’s on Twitter that the results would likely be tragic and – Good Lord! – they agreed to send a stop gap supply by subway this afternoon!

Here’s Corey bringing a six pack to our apartment late this afternoon. I was not able to be there to thank him. I was still at work. My wife was there and she accepted delivery. She also took this artisanally crafted iPhone photograph.

Crisis averted.

Seriously, if you like coffee and especially if you like ice coffee you must try this stuff. I can’t tell you how good it is. Here’s their home on the web.

And no, I know no one at this company and have no financial relationship with them, other than probably creating a substantial amount of their cash flow.
