This is fairly astounding. Apparently President Trump directly ordered the Justice Department to lift a gag order over an FBI informant who is apparently at the center of the John Solomon ‘uranium one’ story. This seems to be to make it possible for this informant to testify before Congress.

A few points to consider here.

I don’t know what the background is of this gag order. It’s pretty clear that the entirety of the rebirth of this “uranium one” story is an effort to distract and deflect from the actual investigation of Russian meddling in the 2016 election and possible collusion in that effort on the part of the President and his associates. It stems from the reporting of one of the least reputable reporters in the business. But having the President give such an order – clearly being floated to kick dirt in the way of the investigation into him – is stunning and wildly inappropriate.
