Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK) warned that if President Barack Obama does take executive action on immigration “you could see violence.”
“The country’s going to go nuts, because they’re going to see it as a move outside the authority of the president, and it’s going to be a very serious situation,” Coburn said in an interview with USA Today. “You’re going to see —hopefully not— but you could see instances of anarchy…. You could see violence.”
Coburn’s comments come a day before Obama is expected to announce his executive actions on immigration on Thursday.
Other Republicans have also made drastic warnings toward Obama over executive action. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) in a column in Politico said that Republicans should halt key nominations if Obama takes executive action.
Watch Coburn here:
Coburn’s comments are irrational, irresponsible and just plain ignorant. The whole “I hope we don’t see violence” ploy is Coburn throwing gas on a fire. If something does happen, Coburn will wring his hands as he blames Obama. It’s very sad to see Coburn act this way when he barely blinked when Reagan and Bush took similar actions. This version of the Republican Party doesn’t even have a casual relationship with the truth.
So no violence when Saint Ronnie of Reagan did it, but Coburn predicts violence when the black guy does it.
Well that’s not at all irresponsible.
Fortunately, all reactionaries are paper tigers.
Sen. Coburn, call up John Boehner and ask him to get his House to pass the damned bill your chamber passed. You know, the one on immigration. That way Obama would not need to act unilaterally like Reagan and GW Bush did on Immigration. AND the House could brag at the next election that they actually did their job for a change.
What. A. Concept.
Sheesh.
