Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-NC) lost her primary bid Tuesday night to fellow Rep. George Holding (R-NC), according to the Associated Press and the Washington Post.

Ellmers lost in a newly drawn district where it was not clear if she would even come in second place. According to the Washington Post, Ellmers was neck and neck with Republican Greg Brannon who had run twice for the Senate.

Ellmers had been endorsed by presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump, but had faced an onslaught of attacks from Koch-backed Americans for Prosperity. According to NPR, outside groups had spent more than $1 million against her.

Ellmers won her seat in Congress in 2010 when she was considered to be part of the tea party wave, but since coming to D.C., Ellmers had taken votes on budget bills, abortion and immigration legislation that had frustrated conservatives.

  1. Well good for her! I hope this is just the beginning of a trend not only for tRump endorsed fools but for all Republicans this fall.

Besides…she looks like a blond Sarah Palin. :scream:

  2. She actually got interested in governing. Not what a right-wing “conservative” Republican is supposed to do. To the right-wing thugs, even though she was a Tea Partier, she’s become a RINO. The Republican Party is the party of racism and selfishness, all under the perverse guise of “Christianity”, without the heart. The common good be damned.

  3. She road in on the tea bagger wave. And now lost her primary?

Fingers crossed that 2016 elections we can be well rid of many of the tea baggers at are ruining our government! That will be great!

  4. She wasn’t voted out for being too far right. She was voted out for not being extreme enough.

And PS: The guy who beat her will win the election because he has an R beside his name. And he’s even more extreme, more vicious, and more ignorant. A tool of the Kochs and the Family Research low-lifes.
