Agree or Disagree?
Josh Marshall: “Speaking strictly for myself, the key predicate to my concerns about Trump’s ties to Russia are his ignorance, impulsiveness and impressionable-ness. We all tend to pick up from or even conform to the thinking of people we’re in business with — literally or figuratively. We tend to pick up or follow the advice of the people who advise us. That’s just natural. We tend to think a lot about people we owe money to or people we may need to call on for help in the future. All of this is just human nature. Most of us counter them with a set of pre-existing ideas, values, beliefs, a broader stability in our lives or our work that prevents us from being overly dependent on too many others, particularly malign individuals. With Trump, though, I see none of these. Since Trump’s worldview is rooted in dominance, he is incapable of seeing international treaties or security alliances as anything other than protection rackets. He seems inclined to act on that notion.”
Say What?!
“I always wanted to get the Purple Heart. This was much easier.”
– Donald Trump invited a military veteran on stage at a rally after he presented the GOP nominee with his Purple Heart.
BUZZING: Today in the Hive
From a TPM Prime member: “By today’s standards one could look at LBJ and think there was something going on there. The difference between a Churchill or Johnson and Trump is that the former both showed a concrete history of engagement in their chosen discipline of politics. One could never suggest that whatever illness or oddities they might have had were getting in the way of their job performance. Trump is revealing just the opposite. From his thin skin, to his horribly managed convention, to his pathetic campaign structure, it is obvious that his ego, narcissism, and whatever else he may have are getting in the way of his campaign, let alone preparing for the job. He is high functioning at what he knows. It is not carrying over.”
Related: Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) calmly accused Donald Trump of being “mentally unstable,” citing his relentless attacks on the parents of a deceased Muslim American soldier.
