WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama has signed legislation imposing new sanctions against North Koreafor refusing to stop its nuclear weapons program.

Lawmakers overwhelmingly and swiftly approved the bill earlier this month. White House spokesman Josh Earnest said Wednesday that the president planned to sign the bill.

The expanded sanctions are designed to deny North Korea the money it needs to develop miniaturized nuclear warheads and the long-range missiles needed to deliver them.

The measure also authorizes $50 million over five years to transmit radio broadcasts into North Korea and support humanitarian assistance programs.

The sanctions from Congress come as the U.S. and China are in delicate negotiations over a U.N. Security Council resolution on new sanctions. China has raised concerns about measures that could devastate North Korea’seconomy.

  1. Sanctions? Why doesn’t he just surrender and get it over with? If Barack Obama loved America, he’d respond with air strikes, followed by nukes from orbit, as it’s the only way to be sure.

Sanctions just demonstrates, once again, that he’s an appeaser.

Gotta wonder what it takes to bring that crazy little bastard to his senses. His dad and grand dad were just as nutty as he.

I hope this is just snark on your part. That little nut has 1 million – yes, 1 million – artillery pieces pres-sighted and aimed at SK and US military installations and at Seoul he also has miles of tunnels big enough to hold tanks under the DMZ.
. We could turn NK into molten glass, but thousands of innocents would die in the first 24 hrs.And none of this considers what China and Russia might do.

  5. My suggestion that we nuke North Korea from orbit left you in doubt as to whether snark was involved in my reply? You might want to have your mechanic have a look at your Snark Meter.
