This Week: Energy Regulator Nominee Worried About ‘Tyranny’ Of ‘Green Movement’

Following a devastating report from the Miami Herald on the sweetheart deal his then-office gave to hedge fund manager and alleged serial sexual offender Jeffrey Epstein, Secretary of Labor Alex Acosta is reportedly out of the running to be President Donald Trump’s next secretary of state, though he apparently didn’t have much of a chance to begin with. The multi-part report visualizes Epstein’s connections to legal, political and, in at least one case, literal royalty — that is, Prince Andrew. With a party-line 50-49 vote Thursday, senators voted to end debate on the nomination of Mick Mulvaney protégé Kathy Kraninger to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Mulvaney has worked hard to slow or stop CFPB’s enforcement efforts. Kraninger said in confirmation hearings: “I cannot identify any actions that Acting Director Mulvaney has taken with which I disagree.” Kraninger spent most of her career in homeland security positions before joining the Office of Management and Budget.
