This Week: Dems Push For Mueller Report As GOP Prematurely Claims Victory
Special counsel Robert Mueller’s 22-month investigation is finally done, but the fight over its findings is just beginning. On Sunday, Attorney General Bill Barr released a four-page letter laying out what he said were the basic parameters of the Mueller report. Per Barr, the investigation did not establish that Trump’s campaign colluded with Russia to interfere in the 2016 campaign. Though Mueller declined to make a decision on whether the President obstructed justice — a decision he apparently informed top DOJ officials about three weeks ago — Barr and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein made that decision for him. Trump, they said, did not. The Barr letter was framed by the right as total vindication. Trump called it a “complete exoneration” (though Mueller apparently said the evidence “does not exonerate” him). House Republicans and conservative media called on the press and their Democratic counterparts to be held accountable. Some, like Sens.
