This Week: Mueller Recommends No Jail Time For Cohen, Flynn Thanks To Their Cooperation

In a flurry of court documents filed late Friday, federal prosecutors sought a “substantial prison term” for Michael Cohen, and the special council’s office asked that any time served by Cohen for lying to Congress “be served concurrently” with his prison term in the Southern District of New York case. The special counsel’s office documents also made public new info, including that in November 2015 Cohen spoke with a Russian national who offered Trump’s campaign “political synergy” with Russia, and repeatedly proposed setting up a meeting between Trump and Putin. Cohen has for months been assisting Mueller’s team with information about the Trump Organization’s work in Russia, the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s office on the Trump Organization’s help coordinating hush money payments to women, the New York Attorney General probing Trump Foundation abuses, and New York tax officials probing Cohen’s own tax evasion.
