We’ll likely find out soon whether Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and DOJ official John Gore — Trump’s pick to lead the Civil Rights Division — will be deposed this week as part of New York’s challenge to the census citizenship question. The parties challenging Ross’ addition of the question to the 2020 survey argue that Ross and Gore need to fill in key gaps on why the administration sought to add the question, and whether the ostensible reason that the citizenship data was needed for DOJ Voting Rights Act enforcement was merely pretense.
