Nearly two-thirds of Republicans expect real estate mogul Donald Trump to represent the GOP in the general election, according to a ABC News/Washington Post poll released Tuesday morning.
The poll found 64 percent of national Republicans and Republican-leaning independents say they expect Trump to be the party’s presidential nominee. That’s a 25-point jump since the ABC News/Washington Post poll in November.
The poll also found Trump led among registered Republican-leading voters when asked about their primary choice. He earned 37 percent, while Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) earned 21 percent (a six-point jump since December) and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) earned 11 percent.
The poll was conducted by Langer Research Associates of New York among 1,001 adults, 23 percent of whom identified as Republicans, from Jan. 21-24 by landline and cell phone in Spanish and English. The margin of error was plus or minus 4 percentage points for registered voters and plus or minus 4.4. percentage points for registered Republican-leading voters.
