Fiorina’s first challenge in the Republican debate was simply getting a spot on the main stage. Now, after a standout performance, her next quest is to convert a burst of enthusiasm for her candidacy into actual support from voters and donors. Republican presidential candidate and former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina surged to second place among her GOP rivals following the CNN debate Sept. 16, according to a CNN/ORC poll released Sunday.

Donald Trump still was in first place with 24 percent support. Fiorina had 15 percent support, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson had 14 percent and Marco Rubio had 11 percent.

The survey was conducted by ORC International for CNN.

The poll was conducted in phone interviews among 1,006 adult Americans from Sept. 17 to Sept. 19.

The margin of error was plus or minus 3 percentage points.
