Some Immediate Thoughts on the Election of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris

Joe Biden had one job: to get 270 electoral votes. He did it. Nothing succeeds like success and really nothing matters but success. Not margins or coalitions or really anything but the fact that he got it done. Excuses would be meaningless if he hadn’t; second-guessing and potshots from the bleachers are equally so.

This isn’t the end of anything. We can see from the results even of this victorious election what just some of those challenges will be. What this is is an opportunity to stop the knifing attacks on the body politic, the fabric of our government and our almost quarter millennium old republic. How much we can repair, how much we can shift the trajectory of the country away from the decay and opaque transformations that made Trump possible … that’s all in front of us and unknown.

Trump Promised ‘Big’ Press Conference At The Four Seasons … Landscaping Office

President Donald Trump announced on Saturday morning a “big press conference today in Philadelphia” to be held by his legal team later in the day, which is likely to be another sideshow in his quest to invalidate the votes that will cost him the crucial swing state. Pretty predictable (yet no less alarming) stuff at this point.

What people are having trouble wrapping their head around right now is the downright bizarre location Trump chose for the presser.

Incitement Texts Traced to the Trump Campaign

Trump supporters in eastern Pennsylvania have been receiving what amount to anonymous incitement messages via text telling them the race is being stolen from President Trump and urging them to converge on the Philadelphia Convention Center where votes are being counted in Philadelphia. “ALERT: Radical Liberals & Dems are trying to steal this election from Trump! We need YOU!”

This is the same location where local authorities appear to have thwarted a planned terror attack on election workers two nights ago.

PA GOP Won’t Get The SCOTUS Intervention It Asked For Just Yet

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito has asked Pennsylvania to respond by Saturday afternoon to a GOP request that the court order election officials not to count the mail ballots that arrive during a disputed, post-Election Day grace period.

Legislative Appointment of Electors Would Be Unlawful. And It Won’t Even Work For Trump.

Just yesterday, I wrote on this site that a state legislature directly appointing presidential electors for Trump against the results of the election would be unconstitutional and, in any event, wasn’t going to happen in Pennsylvania due to the unlikely stand taken by Republican state legislators. But what about states other than Pennsylvania? The state legislatures of the battleground states of Arizona and Georgia are controlled by Republicans too, as are important Biden wins in Wisconsin and Michigan.
