There is an understandable and wise desire not to breathe too big a sigh of relief. Most of us realize that the reality and threat of Trumpism is far from over. Indeed, there could even be another Trump presidency in four years, though I think that’s quite unlikely. I want to ask you something different: How have you experienced the end of Trump’s presidency? I mean at a basic experiential level.
As much as I have written about the centrality, power and chaotic force of Trump’s Twitter feed I was not prepared for the impact of his account being suspended in early January, a couple weeks ahead of Biden’s inauguration. It was like he just ceased to exist and I voice I’d heard – literally or figuratively – barking in my head for more than five years just went silent. From what I can tell it hit him just as powerfully. Losing his twitter megaphone seems to have undone him.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) revealed that she is a survivor of sexual assault during an emotional Instagram livestream on Monday night while she was laying out the trauma she experienced when ex-President Donald Trump’s supporters, some of whom were flaunting military-grade weapons and zip ties, were rampaging through the Capitol halls last month.
Former President Trump “endangered the life of every single Member of Congress, jeopardized the peaceful transition of power and line of succession, and compromised our national security,” the House argued in an impeachment brief filed Tuesday morning that sets the stage for next week’s Senate trial.

Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) said on Tuesday that he agreed “wholeheartedly” with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) after the top Senate Republican condemned a conspiracy theorist lawmaker for embracing “loony lies.”
“We have to move beyond what someone thinks might be true because it’s on the internet, into what is true as best as we can understand it,” Cassidy said during a CBS interview early Tuesday.

“We need to base things on facts,” the Louisiana lawmaker added.
The comments come after McConnell on Monday issued a blistering rebuke of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s (R-GA) affinity for falsehood, calling an increasingly entrenched penchant for pushing misinformation a “cancer for the Republican Party and our country.”
“Somebody who’s suggested that perhaps no airplane hit the Pentagon on 9/11, that horrifying school shootings were pre-staged, and that the Clintons crashed JFK Jr.’s airplane is not living in reality,” McConnell said in a statement that did not name Greene directly.
“I agree wholeheartedly with what the leader has said,” Cassidy declared on Tuesday, adding that he anticipated a lot of his colleagues in the Senate would come forward to agree with McConnell’s statements throughout the day.
“It can’t just be because you want something to be true, it has to be what you know to be true, as best as you can know it,” he said.
