COLUMBIA, South Carolina (AP) — A South Carolina senator has proposed a bill that would move the Confederate flag from the Statehouse to a relic room in a museum.
Democratic Sen. Vincent Sheheen introduced the bill Tuesday. It would move the flag from a 30-foot pole in front of the Statehouse to the Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum.
Sheheen’s introduction came after lawmakers overwhelmingly agreed to take the first step to debating the flag, which will likely occur later this summer.
Sheheen made the proposal after nine black church members were killed in Charleston in what police say was a racially motivated attack by a young white man. The suspected gunman was photographed holding a Confederateflag in a purported manifesto.
I think the museum is a good idea if handled as factual history, and not the histronics planned by the “Sons of” annual dress-up group. The Gettysburg battlefield has numerous monuments identifying/honoring the troops of the various states as they participated in the battle on both sides. That’s appropriate. Enough of the bullshit trying to keep a failed revolt alive.

Is there something about the particular flag at this memorial that makes it historic and worthy of going in a museum? I had thought “putting it in a museum” was kind of metaphorical and that an actual museum would have real Civil War-era flags, not a replica which is what I expect this is.
Reading this article, I had the same question. IMO all current copies of that scrap of cloth owned by the state of SC deserve to be removed to an incinerator.
Instead of shooting up black community leaders in a church, our con friends can now go shoot up liberal white museum docents. Second Amendment rules, the ghost of James Brady drools (or something like that).
