President Donald Trump on Wednesday spun the midterm election results in a favorable light Wednesday, focusing on Republicans’ gains in the Senate and the success of candidates for whom he campaigned.

Left mostly unsaid: Democrats’ success in taking back the House of Representatives, and the long list of candidates he endorsed who lost their elections.

“Last night, the Republican Party defied history to expand our Senate majority while significantly beating expectations in the House for the midtown — and mid-turn — year,” Trump said at the top of a press conference Wednesday, misspeaking slightly.

He said Republicans gains came despite “a very dramatic fundraising disadvantage,” “very hostile media coverage,” and “a staggering number of House retirements.”

“Of the 11 candidates we campaigned with during the last week, nine won last night,” the President added.
