As President Donald Trump fervently watched the fiery opening statements of his Supreme Court nominee on Thursday afternoon, he swelled with pride, Politico reported.

The President was reportedly “elated,” in Politico’s words, by Kavanaugh’s defiant performance, and the way he pointedly chose to mirror some of the President’s own talking points on the matter as his defense: attacking Democrats and the media for ruining his reputation.

“I think he’s studied the way people around Donald Trump have been treated and he figured out a way to prevail,” a White House official told Politico, describing Kavanaugh’s opening remarks as “superb.”
