House Intel Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) has hired one career official formerly at the Trump White House and is considering taking on another, sending paroxysms of anxiety through President Donald Trump who thinks Schiff is recruiting former insiders to get information for his investigations.

According to a Thursday Bloomberg report, the recent hires play into Trump’s paranoia about a “Deep State,” or cabal of government officials quietly working to undermine Trump’s agenda.

Trump’s concerns about Schiff have been evident in recent days. He blasted House Democrats’ “ridiculous partisan investigations” during the State of the Union (earning a smirk from Schiff) and called the California congressman a “political hack” during a press conference earlier this week.
